I'm thinking either Washington Mutual, or Bank of the West. Which one is better? Do either have hidden fees? Or is there a bank that would be better?
Which bank should I open a free checking account with?
Here's a list of banks in Washington that can help. http://www.banksintheusa.com/Washington-...
Reply:I would say either Washington Mutual or Bank of America. Bank of America offers a free checking account if you sign up for it online. They have a top notch online banking service with Free online billpay. Also if you open up a savings acct as well you can use "Keep the change" which is where you use your debit card to make purchases and you purchase is rounded up to the next dollar and the change goes into your savings acct. For example let's say you spend $9.25 on your debit card that get's rounded up to $10 from your checking account and the change ($.75) goes into your savings account. That may not sound like much but Bank of America will match 100% of your keep the change transactions for the 1st 90 days (upto $250) and then matches 5% thereafter.
I saved $250 in the 1st 90 days with my keep the change by making a lot of small transactions or small gas purchases (making sure to stop the pump near $1.01 or whatever so it sends $.99 to my keep the change
Reply:Washington Mutual has been bought my Chase so you would have to consider the banking service of Chase.
