If someone mistakenly desposits money in your bank account, are you legally obliged to give it back?

In this case, my school deposited money for some FinAid that they stated I met requirements for when I originally applied for FinAid. Now, almost a year since my FinAid application and a day after they deposited the money, they claim I wasn't entitled to it and have put a stop notice on my record till I give it back. Wanted to know the legality of it.

Reply:You have to return it.
Reply:Short answer YES. Long answer do you want to end up in court.
