What factors account for the rapid growth in the number of interest groups?

Greed for the $$$ and the rising popularity of cult mentality. Both I find sad.
What factors account for the rapid growth in the number of interest groups?
The Israel Lobby has huge amounts of money they get from the billions of dollars in US taxes we shell out to Israel in unaccounted cash funds. Israel uses that money to influence our elections etc.
Reply:Financial backing. So long as there is money to be had, there will be people flocking to it in hopes of their cut. Interest groups are nothing more than non-profit money laundering machines. Most of the people organizing and representing them don't care, they do it for their slice of the pie. Take Al Gore for instance he gets to travel first class globally, get his life paid for plus extra cash in his pocket (and I don't mean a little), in the name of environmentalism. He doesn't understand what he babbles about, he has no clue of the environment, nor does he care (just look at his methods of travel), but there he is daily spewing his "special" interest mantra so that he can make a few extra thousand dollars. He really should be advertising his sponsors on his clothing like professional sports figures have to.
