Because when you shoot from 2km away, assuming the bullet has a muzzle velocity of 800m/s, it takes about 2.5 seconds. That is 30 meters deviation!
Do you need to take the gravity into account when snipping ?
even if you neglect wind resistance, a 2km shot, fired horrizontally, would experience a 48 meter drop (neglecting the curvature of the earth, but it's not noticable to 2 significant figures anyway)
clearly this would be a nearly impossible shot.
Reply:Of course you do. Snipers have to adjust their sights for windage and elevation. To do this, they use laser rangefinders to determine the exact distance to the target, and they also measure the windspeed. A bullet is very light, so wind affects it a lot! Gravity affects it a lot too!
Reply:Yes you do. You even need to know the windspeed, density of air, humidity cause these factors can affect the path of bullet.
